1 - PROGRAM INSTALLATION
B-BALL is designed to be run from one high density floppy diskette or from
a hard disk where all of the program files are copied into one subdirectory.
It cannot be run from one 360K or one 720K floppy diskette as the executable
file SPEED.EXE is too large and the team statistics files accumulate in size
rapidly. You will also need about 512K in memory (RAM) to run the program.
To install B-BALL Pro Basketball for the Computer onto your computer hard
drive copy all of the files from the floppy diskette(s) to a subdirectory on
your hard drive. Simply insert the PROGRAM DISK into your floppy drive
(here we'll assume the A: drive) and type "install" at the DOS prompt. The
install program will ask you if it can install the program into a directory
called "BBALL". Type "Y" for yes if that is acceptable. The install program
will also allow you to install it to a directory name of your choice if you
do not want the directory called "BBALL" by typing "N" for no and then typing
in a directory name of your choice.
If there is any problem with the install program, simply copy all of the files
on the PROGRAM DISK to a subdirectory of your root directory (here the
subdirectory is called "bball"). Then repeat this for any disks labelled
TEAMS DISK. Use DOS commands similar to:
A:\> md c:\bball
A:\> copy a:*.* c:\bball
assuming a: is the floppy drive you are copying from and c: is your hard drive.
To begin the program, switch to the BBALL subdirectory on your hard drive,
type "BBALL" or "ONEGAME" to play the Single Game Version or "SEASON" to run
the Full Season Version, and press <ENTER>. Use DOS commands similar to:
A:\> c:
C:\> cd\bball
C:\> season
Once you are in the program please type the letter "I" to read the program
instructions.
2 - THE B-BALL FULL SEASON VERSION
The B-BALL Full Season Version is an extremely statistically accurate
computer program that simulates professional basketball. It is based on the
1991-92 pro basketball regular season statistics and also from earlier season
statistics. B-BALL can be used in a number of ways, including:
a) predicting the outcome of a single upcoming game between two pro teams
that is about to be played in real life by playing any number of games
between those same two teams (using updated and current team and player
files) and determining an average score, point spread, and total points
scored between the two teams.
b) replaying an entire season for all of the pro teams (1107 total games
for the 27 pro teams) and obtaining accurate statistical results.
c) replaying any number of games (up to 82) for any single team against any
schedule of opponents to predict the outcome of that team's season.
d) determining a team's optimum substitution pattern, i.e. the substitution
pattern that results in the most wins for the team.
e) determining whether a future trade or free agent signing would be
advantageous to a team in terms of producing more wins for that team.
During the 1992-93 pro season the B-BALL team and player files will be updated
once a week and will be mailed once a week to all who license a copy of the
B-BALL Statistical Model for Pro Basketball. The program can then be used
during the actual 1992-93 pro season for analysis of upcoming pro games using
both the current 1992-93 pro team and player files and also the 1991-92 files.
A copy of the B-BALL Single Game Version is also included with each licensed
copy of the B-BALL Statistical Model for Pro Basketball (Full Season Version).
2 - SHAREWARE VERSION
For those of you who have obtained the B-BALL Full Season Version through
shareware, the price of the B-BALL Statistical Model for Pro Basketball
software is $95.00. With registration you will immediately have mailed to you
the 1991-92 pro team and player files and during the 1992-93 pro season you
will also have mailed to you during the 1992-93 pro season weekly updated team
and player files. To register the software please remit this amount to
BOBBALL, Inc. at the above address using either a check or money order.
There is NO DIFFERENCE between the shareware version of B-BALL and that
purchased directly from BOBBALL, Inc. The shareware is a complete working
version of the B-BALL software with the 1991-92 pro teams included.
One nice feature of B-BALL is that for up to one year after you purchase it,
you can obtain for FREE the latest version of B-BALL by simply sending a
formatted high density floppy diskette and sufficient return postage (and
an envelope large enough to hold the floppy) to BOBBALL, Inc. We will then
send the latest version to you.
NOTE: As of 9/92 B-BALL is also looking for corporate sponsorship and/or a
distributor. Any interested parties please contact Bob Chaikin at the
above phone number and/or address.
